An announcement made by Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, about the social media giant changing its name to Meta in a virtual reality rebrand has caused a lot of online uproars.

Mark Zuckerberg said that Meta would entail other applications like Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Oculus, the virtual reality brand.

Recently leaked papers referred to like the Facebook Papers exposed how the company operates from within. Allegations from Francis Haugen indicate that Facebook has put profits ahead of eliminating its platform from hate speech and misinformation.

“Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company and I want to anchor our work and our identity on what we are building towards. We are now looking at reporting on our business as two different segments, one for our family of apps and one for our work on future platforms,” Zuckerberg said.

Twitter users were not left behind.

“Rebranding Facebook to Meta is the last straw stuff for Zuckerberg before he launches sharks with laser beams attached to their heads,” one user wrote.

It is clear that Facebook users did not welcome the news which is displayed evidently in their tweets. Especially because the users feel like Facebook is trying to cover up for their mistakes instead of fixing the mistakes.
