Every month, on the 14th day, Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reviews the country’s fuel prices. In the October 14 review, EPRA increased petrol, diesel, and kerosene prices due to a rise in the average landing cost of imported fuel. This led to petrol retailing at Ksh.217.36 per litre, diesel at Ksh.205.47, and kerosene at Ksh.204.46 in Nairobi.

The escalating fuel prices have become a significant factor contributing to the high cost of living in the country, prompting concerns and discussions among politicians and the public.

As the next monthly fuel price review approaches, there is anticipation and speculation regarding whether EPRA will announce further increases. Molo MP Kuria Kimani, chairperson of the National Assembly Finance and Planning Committee, is optimistic that prices will remain stable. However, concerns persist, with social media reflecting apprehensions about potential announcements that could add to the economic challenges faced by the people.

Senator Ledama Ole Kina’s questions about the sourcing of fuel and hints of possible manipulation add to the complexity of the situation. The upcoming announcement from EPRA is awaited with a mix of hope and concern across the nation.
