Kipchumba Murkomen, the Transport Cabinet Secretary, announced the formation of a specialised task force to advance the electric mobility revolution.

The 15-member team has been tasked with developing a comprehensive national policy framework for electric mobility, cementing Kenya’s commitment to sustainable transportation.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon the Cabinet Secretary by the Constitution and the Laws of Kenya, I do establish a taskforce on the development of National Electric Mobility policy, strategy, legislation, and regulation,” said Murkonmen in the latest Kenya gazette.

The task force, which will play a vital part in shaping Kenya’s transport future, will be led by Daniel Ngumi and deputised by Jerotich Seii.

The task force’s combined expertise is anticipated to draw insights from worldwide best practises and adjust them to Kenya’s specific setting.

This move placed Kenya in the company of other forward-thinking African nations such as Ghana and Eswatini, who have already made achievements in implementing electric mobility frameworks.

These countries’ collaborative efforts highlight the rising realisation of the critical need to move to more sustainable means of transportation.
