The Kenyan government through the ministry of agriculture has  set100 demonstration farms for cotton farming to aid the commencement of BT cotton’s commercialization.

Counties that fall in the Lake Region Economic Bloc will be given priority, due to the presence of favorable weather conditions for the growth of BT cotton. This, according to Peter Munya, Agriculture CS.

In addition, in a bid to revamp the textile industry, the government seeks to revive all stalled ginneries in the country.

Commercial farming of the produce was approved on December 2019 by the Cabinet with effect from this year March.

The move is set to offer a boost to the government’s Big Four Agenda, in the Manufacturing sector.

Sudan, Egypt, South Africa, and Burkina Faso are other countries that have commercialized the growth of the GMO crop.
