Huawei Targets Top Global Talent as Revenue Surges

In a bid to support its vision for innovation and creating a greener, more intelligent world, Huawei Technologies has its sights set on top-tier global talent.

In a statement released by the Kenyan office, the company cited its Rotating Chairman Ken Hu as noting that as it launched its Top Minds Recruitment initiative, the company’s commitment to innovation was inexorably linked to the caliber of its personnel.

“For us to effectively tackle the prevailing and future global challenges, we need to attract world-class talent and work together to push the limits of science and technology, ” said Hu.

He continued, “This talent mix is expected to be from all over the world.”

“We don’t mind where you’re from, where you graduated, or what you studied. As long as you have a dream for the future and believe you can make it happen, we want you to come and join us,” he added.

“We provide world-class challenges, a powerful platform, and all the resources you need to explore the unknown.”

According to the company, Kenya is one of the countries that it is keeping an eye on as it launches the Top Minds Recruitment initiative, which will be used to choose the finalists.

It participates in a number of programs for the development of digital skills aimed at developing ICT talent, skills training, and transfer as well as increasing employment in the ICT industry through cooperation with diverse partners.

Local universities embrace the program and applaud it for enhancing their computer science curricula.

Professor Paul Wainaina, Vice Chancellor of Kenyatta University, indicated that it will help the country’s attempts to create an innovation-driven economy.

“By supporting university students with these practical sessions, we are not only supporting the government achieve its Vision 2030 but also building the capacity among youth to complement academia in to steer the country’s talent in the right direction.”

The announcement was made after Huawei reported revenue of $99.8 billion for 2021.

“Innovation has become a core part of Huawei’s DNA,” concluded Ken Hu, adding that for nearly a decade, the firm’s strategy has been to re-invest at least 10 percent of its annual revenue back into R&D.

According to the EU’s 2021 EU Industrial R&D investment scoreboard, Huawei invested 22 percent last year, making it the second-highest investor in R&D in the world.

Over the past two decades, Huawei has assisted more than 80 000 people in the region in improving their ICT skills.

In the region, many prefer to work with Huawei. In 2021, its businesses in 9 Sub-Saharan African nations received the Top Employer label.

“Through the programme, we strive to cultivate more youth leaders in ICT, who can explore more possibilities for themselves, their families, community and ultimately their nations,” Huawei Southern Africa President Leo Chen said.
