A 400-gram loaf of bread now costs Sh10 more due to rising sugar and oil prices.

A spot check by one daily at various retail stores showed that a 400-gram now costs Sh70 from Sh60, one day ago.

The price increase follows one where a two-kilogram package of sugar rose from roughly Sh350 a few days earlier to Sh420 last week.

For instance, a two-kg bag of Kabras sugar cost Sh420 as of last week after increasing by about Sh50.

Sugar is a key component in manufacturing bread, the price of sugar will have a negative effect on the price of bread.

The pain that Kenyans experience is made worse by exorbitant bread prices.

They are already struggling with the skyrocketing prices of staple items like maize and wheat flour.

After the Energy, Petroleum, and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) hiked fuel prices earlier this month, the situation has become worse as a result of rising fuel prices.

In the monthly review, super, diesel, and kerosene in Nairobi increased by Sh3.40, Sh6.40, and Sh15.19, respectively, meaning motorists in the city will now be paying Sh182.7 for petrol, Sh168.4 for diesel, and Sh161.13 for kerosene.
