US carrier, Delta Air Lines, has grounded 300 Aircraft representing 30% of its 900 strong fleet.

This comes at a time when the International Aviation is facing crises following Coronavirus pandemic.

The cutting of flights is taking cause on all flights to mainland Europe, which started last week and will continue in the coming months cutting overall capacity by 40%, to become the largest cut in Delta Airlines history following the 11th September terrorist attack of 2001.

This is not the only airline that has suspended or reduced its services to destinations in Asia, Europe and South America, most of US major airlines have done so.

In Kenya, the government has declared a ban on international flights.

ED Bastian chief executive of Delta Airlines said, “the speed of demand fall-off is unlike anything have ever seen. We are quickly moving to preserve cash and protect our country.”

Flights that were booked at the start of the month, airlines around the globe are allowing the flights to be rescheduled later or cancel without penalty. Most airlines are even giving this offer or incentive to its client up to around September.

Bastian said, “the situation is fluid and likely to get worse and the airline having a discussion with the government on matters pertaining support they can give during this period.”
