Jambojet, which is a subsidiary of Kenya Airways, has suspended its flights to Kigali, Rwanda and Entebbe, Uganda with immediate effect due to few passengers traveling to these regions.

The low-cost carrier stated that the global spread of Covid-19 in the past few weeks has caused a reduction of airline passengers mainly on the international routes.

In a statement, the budget carrier said, “as a result, Jambojet has decided to suspend its services to Kigali, Rwanda and Entebbe, Uganda with immediate effect,” adding that, “all passengers who had booked flights within the said period are advised to get in touch through our contact center.”

Jambojet said it was making required provisions to accommodate passengers who had already booked on alternative flights.

However, the airline noted that it will still operate local flights to Malindi, Ukunda, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret as slated.

This comes at a time of an economic slowdown brought on by the coronavirus pandemic which has hit hardest the aviation and tourism industries.

With the ban of flights to and from China, Kenya Airways said it is losing at least Sh800 million a month on the route alone, adding that when it factors in other destinations, the airline has made losses of billions of shillings.
