A driver selfie check tool has been launched by the online taxi-hailing service Bolt to improve consumer safety and prevent impersonation and account sharing.

Once a driver goes online, they will be prompted to take a selfie to verify their identity.

If the selfie does not match the driver’s previously provided information, the driver won’t be able to use the site until their information is validated.

“Our mission revolves around offering affordable, quality, and safe services, and through this new driver selfie check feature, we aim to offer a safe rider mobility experience to all users on our platform,” Bolt Country Manager Linda Ndungu said.

“The new feature will discourage driver impersonation and continue to strengthen our mobility service by enhancing the safety of riders,” Ndungu added.

Over time, the Estonian company has added new features to its platform to improve the security and well-being of drivers, boda boda riders, and passengers on Bolt trips.

The technology startup also provides trip sharing, driver and car sharing, an SOS emergency button, and other safety features.

In order to better serve women’s mobility needs and address safety issues, Bolt also offers a category just for them.

The women-only category increases Bolt’s transportation options while allowing female passengers to request rides from other female drivers.

Additionally, the category strives to improve the safety and security of all female users of Bolt’s platform, including both drivers and passengers.
