Online food delivery platform Bolt Food has launched its services in Mombasa, allowing locals to order food from restaurants.

Residents in Ziwani, Tudor, Makupa, Tononoka, Kibokoni, and Ganjoni, among other places, would have access to the services.

Later, in the upcoming weeks, the services will be extended to adjacent areas.

The company, which has its headquarters in Estonia, recently announced ambitions to invest and expand there.

“We are delighted to launch our services in Mombasa City as part of our nationwide expansion plan,” Bolt Food Country Manager Edgar Kitur said.

“Mombasa remains an integral market for us, and we look forward to offering our clients affordable, convenient, and quality services. We are also happy to economically empower the youth in Mombasa by offering employment opportunities to them through the gig economy,” Kitur added.

In 2021, Mombasa becomes Nairobi as the second city where Bolt will develop.

The coastal city offers a wide variety of African cuisine, fast food options, continental fare, and seafood platters in addition to Swahili specialties.

KFC, Chicken Inn, Galito’s, Java House, Adams Barbeque, Crave Mombasa, Snack Attack Restaurant, Milia Gardens, and Damascus Shawarma are some of the well-known franchises there.

“Currently, we have onboarded over 300 couriers in Mombasa on our platform, thus helping them make a decent living,” Kitur stated.

“We shall continue to work with other couriers and restaurants to create job opportunities for the coastal region.”

By 2027, there will be 79.51 million users on the platform for consumer delivery, according to data from the company Statista, demonstrating the ongoing rise of online food delivery services.

More than 4000 couriers in Nairobi and its city have employment chances with Bolt Food, which currently has over 1500 restaurants on its network.

It intends to spread to further towns and cities throughout Kenya.
