About 60,000 people across Kenya are set to benefit from M-PESA Foundation-funded medical camps in 47 counties, starting with Lamu County this week.

The Sh46 million investment is expected to support the provision of health information, the purchase of medical supplies and medications for general healthcare, the screening of specific NCDs, dental and eye care, and the management of diabetes and high blood pressure.

The first camp will be launched in Lamu County, where the M-PESA Foundation has donated Sh1,700,000.00 in medicine and medical supplies to help with healthcare delivery.

“The programme we are launching today complements other landmark initiatives that we have rolled out in collaboration with various counties in a bid to address healthcare challenges. At the same time, we are looking to improve our approaches in order to reach as many people as possible. The medical camps are therefore an avenue to ensure better healthcare outcomes for local communities,” said Nicholas Nganga, M-PESA Foundation Chairman.

Daktari Smart, a telemedicine project in partnership with Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation, is one of the marquee health initiatives under the M-PESA Foundation.

It offers specialized care to Kenyans who live in underserved and difficult-to-reach counties like Lamu, Homa Bay, Baringo, and Samburu.

Since 2021, the Sh168 million program has been running with the goal of giving more than 32,000 youngsters access to specialized medical care.

Additionally, the Foundation runs Uzazi Salama, a reproductive health program that will assist over 90,000 residents of Homa Bay County.

Over 400 women have received surgery and therapy for fistulas as part of a program run by the M-PESA Foundation and Flying Doctors since 2021.
