Trade Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano has confirmed Esther Njeri Ngari as the new CEO of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs).

The new standard agency boss will be in charge for three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (1) of the Standards Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry appoints ESTHER NJERI NGARI to be the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Bureau of Standards, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 13th October, 2023,” the CS announced in a gazette notice.

Ngari has been serving as temporary CEO since former CEO Bernard Njiraini was fired for his alleged role in the release of contrand sugar.

As a result, the National Standards Council has extended the deadline for applications until August 8, 2023.

She formerly worked at Kebs as the Director of Standards Development and Tarde.

She was in charge of quality assurance, research, and development at the Kenya Meat Commission before joining the agency.
