This is going to be an interesting phase of your life. That, I can promise. The effect of it all will solely depend on you and the effort that goes towards nurturing your creativity. I have to add that as well. People will tell you how everyone is a blogger these days but let that not deter you from artistically expressing yourself. How do you know you’re on the right path? Being unique and carving a niche for yourself needs reflective thought.

What do you want to say?

You have been given a microphone and a platform and now it’s your turn to address the crowd. The blog is telling a story about you. It is your brand. So as you start out make sure your voice is clear and it sounds like you. Let the art be free (I just made that up) You can learn different styles from writers or bloggers you admire but don’t copy them try just be authentic and people will be drawn to you.

What value are you adding to your reader?

They want to know what they can learn from you. And as an upcoming blogger having a unique perspective on things will set you apart from others. You could be a fashion blogger who wears clothes made locally only. Or a food writer with unique remixes to common recipes. Your readers will be drawn to what you write because of the information you are giving them.

The nitty-gritty.

The aesthetics of your blog matter more than you know. Have a good design and easy-to-navigate features on your site. This usually determines if someone will come back again or if they will move on to the next best thing. Be on the look-out for trends and refresh the look from time to time.

You will also need to learn some basic workings of a blog to run one effectively. Learn as much as you can from websites that cater to new bloggers. There you will find FAQs that people have already encountered and have worked through. Ask for help.

Honing the craft.

It takes lots of practise to become good or achieve status of any kind. Let that be at the back of your mind even as you start out. The established bloggers made names for themselves painstakingly over the years. Then read, read widely and deeply. You can’t write what you don’t know about.

Invest in the art.

For you to stand out you should strive to be better than everyone else. This calls for investment of time, effort and money. Be ready to stay in to do some editing instead going out with friends.

What are others doing?

Join the local writers or bloggers club. You will have the unique opportunity of learning from others just as you start out.

It will help you get perspective into where you want to go and how it looks like. Also a little competition from your blogger friends will help you stay sharp and creative.

Blogger woes.

You will probably want to give in at some point especially when “life happens.” How you push on after that will determine if you’ll be able to stand out or not. If you set out with a clear schedule and allocate time for writing then your mind will become accustomed to the routine. You will push through even during the days you don’t feel like writing anything.

These are tips which I have seen work with others and some I have used myself. It is through hard work and consistency that you stand out, besides nothing good came easy, right?
