EABL is now packaging its bottled beer in carton packs of six to permit clients to purchase as take-away and return bottles as soon as they end consuming. This is in a bid for the beer maker to increase sales following the ban on alcohol sales in eateries and clubs.

However, customers will be required to part with Sh17 as a deposit per bottle or a total of Sh408 for a carton of 24 bottles.

EABL says the new shift would make it more convenient for customers given that there is a ban on consumption in joints like bars and restaurants.

The company told Business Daily via email that the change of strategy is for “ease of dwelling consumption” and that it is “utilizing packs of six in a carton as a substitute of the patron having to hold free bottles.” One a customer has consumed the drink, they are required to “return the empties.”

The manufacturer registered a 39% profit, which was Sh. 7 billion, for the year ended June 2020.

For the second half of the year, sales nearly dipped to a third due to supply chain disruption during the pandemic.

The new packaged beer will be available to all off-trade outlets such as supermarkets, convenience stores and wines and spirits stores. Nevertheless, there have been growing concerns of children being exposed to underage drinking because of alcohol being consumed at home.
