International Airlines Resume Flights to Kenya as KQ drops Direct Flights to the US and China

A host of international airlines are readying for the resumption of flight to Kenya as the country opens the airspace for international travel on Friday, August 1.

British Airways, KLM, Air France, Qatar Airways and Emirates have already opened booking for flights into and out of the Country.

Air France says it will begin with one flight to Paris, every Friday, KLM will begin with 4 flights. Qatar Airways said it will operate 14 weekly flights subject to regulatory approvals.

British Airways has scheduled to operate 4 weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. However, its first flight will be on Friday, August 1, 2020.

Emirates will be the first to resume operations by offering a repatriation flight on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 from Nairobi to Dubai departing at around 4:15 pm.

Kenyan skies open 4 months after the government suspended all flights to combat the spread of COVID-19 on March 25.

As this happens, Tourism CS Najib Balala has said health and safety remain the government’s topmost priority, amid the gradual opening of the economy.

However, the national carrier, Kenya Airways (KQ) is reported to drop direct flights to the US and China when it resumes international flights. KQ has lost about Sh10 billion in revenue as a result of the pandemic.
