REREC Connects 300 Households to Power in Mombasa
At least 300 houses in Mitedi and Nguu Tatu Villages in Mombasa County’s Kisauni Constituency have been connected to electricity.
Godfrey Lemiso, Chairman of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) Board, reiterated the corporation’s commitment to delivering energy in rural regions, noting that this will encourage economic growth for the rural population.
“As part of our mission to provide electrification in the rural areas of Kenya, REREC is pleased to announce the successful completion and commissioning of the Mitedi and Nguu Tatu rural electrification projects in Kisauni Constituency, Mombasa County,” the authority said in a statement.
Rose Mkalama, REREC’s interim CEO, advised the beneficiaries to use the power to establish commercial activity that will generate cash rather than just lighting.
The agency is currently conducting 73 projects in the coastal region, spanning six counties: Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Mombasa, Taita Taveta, and Tana River.
The projects, when completed, will benefit a total of 4,838 customers.
