After meeting all statutory requirements, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) granted Bolt an operating license.

According to NTSA, the license is valid from October 30, 2023, to October 30, 2022.

The license was issued in accordance with the Transport Network Companies, Owners, Drivers, and Passengers Regulations of 2022.

“This is to certify that BOLT OPERATIONS OU of Plot No. L.R. NO: 209/22216 has been duly licensed by the National Transport and Safety Authority under license No. NTSA/TNC/2023/004 to conduct transport network business in Kenya pursuant to and in accordance with the provision of the National Transport and Safety Authority (Transport Network Companies, Owners, Drivers, and Passengers) Regulations, 2022,” a license by NTSA reads.

The NTSA recently declined to renew Bolt’s operating license in Kenya until a number of driver complaints, including booking fees and illegal commission charges, were resolved.

However, it suspended its booking fee pending clarification with NTSA while maintaining an 18 percent commission structure.

“We are happy to receive the renewal of our operating license from the NTSA, after collaborative dialogue between key stakeholders within the industry,” Linda Ndungu, Country Manager, said.

“This accomplishment reflects our ongoing commitment to providing viable earning opportunities to drivers on our platform, and providing reliable and cost-efficient services to our customers,” Ndungu added.

“It also reaffirms our steadfast commitment to ensuring a secure platform for all users on our platform. We have consistently worked towards meeting the necessary regulatory requirements, and this renewal attests that we continue to be a trusted and compliant player in the ride-hailing sector.”
