French retailer Carrefour will be open in Kisumu with two outlets targeting local buyers in a bid to reduce Naivas Supermarket’s dominance in the region.

This comes one year after the retailer acquired a space of 24,000 square feet at the Mega City Mall taking over spaces previously occupied by Tuskys which succumbed to debt.

However, Naivas is also set to open a third outlet at the Prime Simba Club Hall, just a few meters from  Carrefour’s United Mall Property stiffening competition in the market.

Naivas Chief Commercial Officer Willy Kimani has confirmed in an interview that the new outlet by Naivas will be operational from the third week of July 2021.

“The food market concept is in line with our strategic mission to extend the modern design series across all major urban centers”.He noted.

Known for stocking a broad variety of food items and an assortment of non-food products, Carrefour will have to deal with Naivas which is not only branding their store but will also have a third outlet which will also offer among other things packed food, fast-moving goods such as beverages, fresh vegetables, and even clothes and electronics.

The two branches of Carrefour are strategically located at United Mall along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway and in Mega Plaza in the CBD respectively.

Carrefour’s management remains non-committal in regards to the official day of operation kick-off.
