In a move that will expand their reach across Asia and Africa, China Southern Airlines (CZ) and national carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) have renewed their interline agreement, which was put on hold in April 2020.

By using a single ticket and a single baggage policy, the agreement, which takes effect immediately, will restore connectivity for passengers on both airlines to points on their respective carriers’ networks via Nairobi, Guangzhou, and Shanghai.

The deal, which came to an end when KQ stopped flying to China due to the Coronavirus outbreak, will improve the connectivity options that KQ will provide to its customers by giving them access to domestic Chinese destinations served by China Southern Airline.

Shanghai, Chongqing, Changsha, Chengdu, Dalian, Fuzhou, Hefei, Hangzhou, Nanchang, Kunming, Guiyang, Ningbo, Nanjing, Nanning, Shenyang, Shantou, Sanya, Qingdao, Jinan, and Tianjin are just a few of the routes on this list.

Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Penang, Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney, Auckland, and Melbourne will be among the international destinations served by China Southern.

“China Southern passengers will also benefit from access to KQ’s network of seamless connections to cities beyond Nairobi to African destinations such as Dar es Salaam, Entebbe, Kigali, Kinshasa, Bujumbura, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Douala, Mauritius, and other points,” said Kenya Airways in a statement on Thursday.

Both Kenya Airways and China Southern Airlines are associated with the SkyTeam partnership.

In 2015, the Chinese airline launched service to Kenya from Guangzhou. The move was anticipated to boost the travel and tourism industry while also increasing competition for KQ.

Since its entry into Kenya, the airline has focused on serving local consumers who import goods from China.

Additionally, it hopes to benefit from travellers to the two nations and students participating in exchange programs.
