Banks in Kenya have dominated the LinkedIn 2022 Top Companies in Kenya ranking that was released on Wednesday. The list is a ranking of 25 best workplaces for talent to build careers that will set them up for long term success.

Out of the 25 listed companies, 10 were banks including Equity, KCB, NCBA, Standard Chartered, Stanbic Bank, Diamond Trust Bank, ABSA, Co-operative Bank, I&M bank and Family Bank respectively.

Safaricom PLC was listed as the top company in Kenya, ranked at position 1, Equity at second and Kenya Airways following at third place.

“Our ambition as a company is to become the number one employer in Kenya. We do this  by providing our employees the opportunities and platform to upskill themselves, while also creating a workplace that is inclusive and conducive for all.” said Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa.

The rankings are based on research around building a great career, matched with unique LinkedIn data on elements of career progression in a company. The data also tracked attrition for the past one year, as well as the percentage of employees who stay at the company for at least three years.

This year’s ranking draws from seven pillars including company stability, skills growth, company affinity, gender diversity, external opportunity and ability to progress career wise.

Also considered was the educational background of the employees, and the variety of educational attainment among them from no degree to PhD. This reflects a company’s commitment to recruiting a wide range of professionals.

Safaricom is among companies that have put in employee value propositions, including talent and career development programs and provision of facilities such as mother’s rooms, gyms, creches, prayer rooms and a hybrid working environment.

Other companies listed  include insurance companies, telecommunication and IT. Royal Media Services, the parent company of Citizen TV, was listed at position 20.
