The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced an auction of 12 aircraft abandoned at Wilson Airport.

The auction is set for August 9 while viewing starts on Wednesday and runs until August 8 at Wilson Airport.

The auction comes a month after KAA gave owners of 15 planes, which the authority termed as safety risk, abandoned at the Wilson Airport upto 30 days to offset rising parking fees or they will be auctioned.

In an advert published in a local daily on Tuesday, the authority has invited interested bidders for a public auction of the aircraft for prices from as low as Sh94,300. The most expensive plane set for auction is set at Sh10 million.

The advert, seen by Inversk,  invites bidders for the public auction stating that those interested are to view within the set dates. The advert also requires that those interested to pay a deposit of Sh 100,000 for the items.

“All purchasers are required to pay a deposit of Sh 100,000 for the items to be auctioned before the auction date.” read the advert in part.

For planes whose price is higher than the deposit amount, the bidder will need to pay not less than 25 percent of the total value.

In addition, “All interested purchasers are requested to view the items as per the dates shown above and verify their respective details as these are not warranted by the Auctioneer nor KAA as the items for sale “As where-is” basis,” the KAA advert said.

Some of the planes set for auction include the Fly 540 owned F27 aircraft registered 5X-FFD (at Sh482,000), A John J. Hassel aircraft registered 5Y-NCF (Sh 169,000).

The most expensive aircraft to be auctioned is a Hulanda registration 5H-KLA (to be sold at Sh10,045,000) belonging to Tandill Limited.
