Kenyans now have until March 1st 2020 to acquire the new generation e-passports. This is an extension from the early set deadline of August 31st 2019.

In a directive issued by President Kenyatta, Foreign Affairs CS Amb. Monica Juma and her counterpart in the Interior Ministry Dr. Fred Matiangi have been urged to work with Foreign Missions across the world to facilitate the issuance of visas to Kenyans on the current passports.

This means Kenyans will continue use their current (old blue) old generation travel document to get visa.

In a statement  by Government Spokesperson, Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Ogunaon, the government has urged Kenyans to take advantage of the extension and not wait till the last minute to apply.

The shift to e-passport began in August 2017. After the March 1st applicatuion window, othe old passport will not be unusable and hence one will not be able to acquire a visa.

To acquire the new passport, one is required the following;
1. Birth certificate copy
2. Original ID and copy
3. Recommender’s ID copy
4. Original and Copies of the last two pages of the current passport
5. Duly filled downloaded and printed application form.
6. 3 invoices
7. 3 passport sized photos
