The “Partnering to Enhance Equity” strategy of the Safaricom Foundation, with a focus on community investments in Education, Health, and Economic Empowerment, has been launched for the years 2023–2026.

This comes after the strategy’s 2018 to 2021 execution, which had a beneficial impact on over 4 million people through more than 2,000 community programs.

The Foundation will incorporate ICT, Sustainable Philanthropy, and Humanitarian Response as key execution pillars in the new 2023–2026 strategy to guarantee the delivery of long-lasting impactful projects and charitable contributions to address communities’ immediate needs and worries.

Through partnerships that support Safaricom’s purpose of improving lives, the Foundation will extend its community participation under the new strategy. Additionally, for the first time, the Foundation will use partner financing to generate shared value for longer-term projects.

“Our new strategy will rely a lot on partnerships, technology, and community engagement by bringing on-board all stakeholders in our programmes. That is why we have incorporated Sustainable Philanthropy as a key delivery component so that through such gainful partnerships, communities can continue thriving long after we have implemented our initiatives,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman, Safaricom Foundation.

The Foundation aims to incorporate digital skills under its Education pillar in order to boost teacher and learner competencies and enhance educational outcomes.

Through the establishment of TVET centers of excellence, the provision of scholarships, apprenticeships, and the equipping of graduates in readiness for the job market, the Foundation will also enhance access to TVET training for young people.

The foundation incorporated adolescent health under Health because to a rise in demand for high-quality reproductive care.

In order to increase the capacity of the National, County, and Community Health Systems, this pillar will also enhance its Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child, and Adolescent Health program (RMNCAH).

Additionally, it will incorporate non-communicable illness screening to facilitate early diagnosis, care, and management.

Technology will be utilized to create awareness about health treatments and map the number of pregnant women in high-burden counties.

The Economic Empowerment Pillar will include entrepreneurship programs, employment development, and creative, cheap financing to fully realize the potential of the youth.

Agribusiness, eco-entrepreneurship, and enterprise development will be used to accomplish this. The Foundation will promote innovations aimed at offering ICT solutions to agri-business management for startups and increase learning in sound agricultural practices and agribusiness management via the use of technology.

“In this 2023 to 2026 Safaricom Foundation strategy, we will heavily leverage technology across the three pillars to improve efficiency and scale impact. By 2026, we hope that Safaricom Foundation will have proven that it is possible to impact the community through technological interventions,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom.
