The prestigious Africa Energy Forum (AEF) will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from June 20–23 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The event will be held in the country courtesy of a partnership between Energynet and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.

“This marks the first time that Kenya will host this esteemed energy forum that brings together key stakeholders and thought leaders in the energy sector from around the world,” said Energy and Petroleum CS Davis Chirchir.

“With a reputation of being the most meaningful gathering of decision-makers in African energy, the AEF serves as a platform for partnerships, identifying opportunities, and propelling the industry forward,” Chirchir added.

The 25th AEF, with the theme “Africa for Africa-Building Energy for the Just Transition,” aims to promote a deeper knowledge of the continent’s energy needs while highlighting the critical role that foreign investors play in satisfying these demands.

Government representatives, utility companies, regulators, development finance organizations, and commercial banks will all be present at the event.

Others include technology suppliers, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms, as well as providers of professional services.

Simon Gosling, Managing Director of EnergyNet, CS Chirchir, sports CS Ababu Namwamba, and Joseph Nganga, vice president of GEAPP Africa and a founding partner of YES, will also deliver keynote speeches.

Participants will create connections and influence good change in Africa’s energy sector by coming together and exchanging views.

The event will be hosted by KenGen, one of Kenya’s top energy utility companies, solidifying its status as an important player in both Kenya’s and Africa’s energy sectors.

Kenya has recently emerged as a leader in the deployment of renewable energy, demonstrating its dedication to a sustainable and ecologically friendly energy future.

Notably, Kenya has made great strides toward diversifying its energy sources; today, 81 percent of the country’s electricity is produced through the use of geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar energy.

Kenya is a leader in the industry thanks to its excellent use of geothermal energy, which accounts for more than half of its low-carbon electricity.

In fact, Kenya releases extra geothermal energy when there is little demand for it, demonstrating the abundance of its resources.

The installed geothermal capacity of the country is anticipated to increase by at least eight times, opening up opportunities for developing green manufacturing capacity and exporting extra electricity to nearby countries.

By participating in the forum, KenGen will have excellent possibilities to work with financiers, sector partners, and business leaders to advance sustainable energy solutions.

The event will also see the debut of the Youth Energy Summit (YES! ), which will equip and empower African youth to flourish in the energy sector.

Renewable energy development in Kenya has been greatly aided by KenGen and the Geothermal Development Company (GDC).

The two organizations have made important contributions to the development of the energy sector by enhancing the nation’s ability to produce geothermal energy.

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) and the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) are two more utilities operating in Kenya’s energy market.

Participating organizations include the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NUPEA), the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), and the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).

While REREC enables effective transmission of electricity and increases access to electricity in remote regions, KPLC provides dependable electricity supply and distribution.

The AEF 2023 is expected to be a historic occasion that fosters innovation and teamwork in Africa’s energy industry.

It will act as a catalyst for expanding green energy options, encouraging collaboration, and reshaping Africa’s energy system in the future.
