Absa Bank, AMREF Flying Doctors Partner to Offer Emergency Air and Ground Evacuation Services

Absa Bank Kenya has partnered with AMREF Flying Doctors to provide its customers in the Eastern African region with a discounted, air and ground ambulance scheme.

In the event of a medical emergency, the program gives access to air and land evacuation services.

Customers of Absa will be eligible for up to a 20% discount on Maisha membership for both land and air evacuation services.

Absa Bank Kenya’s Chief Finance Officer Yusuf Omari said during the partnership that consumers will be able to self-register via a secure online site and settle payments using their Absa debit or credit cards, offering further relief in emergency situations.

“At Absa, we are committed to walking the journey with our customers in all moments of life. Today’s partnership with AMREF Flying Doctors is a testament to that commitment and we are proud to offer our customers and their loved ones an opportunity to access unlimited, round-the-clock medical evacuation services at a discounted rate.”

Clients will have access to air medical evacuations, up to US$200,000 in post-evacuation hospitalization benefits in Nairobi or South Africa, as well as return flights, he noted, at a premium level of membership.

“As we work towards helping our customers meet their financial aspirations, we are also cognizant of our role as a bank to help them not only in protecting their financial wealth but also safeguard their health and well-being,” he added.

“This also augments our existing offering for health insurance and is anchored on our desire to deliver added value to our customers.”

Stephen Gitau, CEO of AMREF Flying Doctors, hailed the partnership saying, “This is a commendable gesture, and we encourage the bank’s clientele to sign up for our emergency medical evacuation plan which comes in handy in dire situations.”

The bank’s retail, SME, and corporate clients can use the Maisha Medical Evacuation Plan.

They also have direct access to the AMREF Flying Doctors’ 24-hour control center, where they can get qualified medical advice.

Additionally, they benefit from direct access to the provider of air ambulance services.
