Kenyan tea farmers will benefit from a Sh1 billion grant issued to the Family bank by eco.business Fund. The funds have been issued in an aim to boost access to finance for sustainable agricultural production specifically in the tea farming sector.

According to Dr. Jens Mackensen, chairperson of the board of directors of the eco.business Fund, the new partnership with Family Bank will see the two firms support agribusinesses in Kenya. It will also contribute to biodiversity conservation, sustainable usage of natural resources and also mitigate climate change. The partnership will also benefit sustainability-certified companies and ensure long-term competitiveness of the agricultural sector.

“It is through such strategic partnerships that we can support the sustainability and business continuity of SMEs in the agricultural, forestry, fishery, and tourism sectors,” said Rebecca Mbithi, Family Bank Chief Executive Officer. She also noted that the partnership is a testament to the Bank’s commitment to supporting the growth of local markets, especially critical markets such as tea farming.

The investment is expected to support the fund’s mission to promote business and consumption practices that will contribute to biodiversity conservation and climate action.
