BasiGo Electric Buses

Over 1 million buses travel the roads of Africa, providing the most affordable and accessible daily transportation solution.

However, buses in Africa also consume over 1 billion litres of diesel each year which is not sustainable. Diesel emissions choke pose a threat to the environment and diesel engines are one of the largest sources of CO2e emissions leading to climate devastation on the continent.

Kenyan electric vehicle start-up BasiGo is targeting to sell 20 new passenger electric buses by end of the year in what could potentially earn the firm Sh100 million in the wake of increasing demand for environmentally friendly transport.

The plan follows the successful piloting of two buses that have been operating on two city routes since March as the company gears up to scale up the business line.

BasiGo’s first two K6 Electric Buses are now in pilot operations with CitiHoppa and East Shuttle which has seen bus passengers in Eastern Nairobi now have the opportunity to experience an electric bus first hand.

The buses will run routes between Allsops and JKIA, and Dandora and Nairobi Stadium.

The startup is now accepting reservations for the first production units of the 25-seat K6 Electric bus and with BasiGo’s Pay-As-You-Drive battery subscription, the K6 Electric Bus is available for a purchase price of Ksh 5 Million plus an affordable subscription fee of Ksh 20 per kilometre.
