Safaricom retains its brand name in venturing into the Ethiopian Market. It is registered as Safaricom Telecommunication Ethiopia PLC as seen from the ECA statement.

Safaricom in the growth and creating a stamp in the region entered its interest by seeking license of the Ethiopian telecommunication regulation. This is according to ECA, “ Pursuit to the Articles 40 and 41 of the under regulations, the Designated Licensee ( Global Partnership for Ethiopia) shall incorporate a local company within forty-five (45) calendar.”

Safaricom seeks to invest $8.5 billion investment in 10 years, as it expands the country’s internet connectivity with the rollout of 5G and 4G strengthening in some parts. They have a vision by 2023 to have a low-orbit satellite that will put nationwide internet connectivity to 4G coverage.

The license that Safaricom Telecommunication Ethiopia PLC operates will run for 15 years before renewing occurs by subjecting it to the license obligation. This will help the Safaricom-led consortium create up to 1.5 million new jobs in the Ethiopian market.

It has the go-ahead to launch its MPESA Fintech subsidiary which will ease the lives of those unbanked. This is important as they have advanced the Mpesa services to become a stand-alone app that will place Safaricom on the global path as a data company amongst blue tech companies.
