The latest Whatsapp update will allow Whatsapp groups to increase the capacity of their group members to 512 from 256 before the announcement. In a recent statement, Whatsapp assured its users of improvements and new features to the social media app.

“Building private, safe, and secure communities takes work and we think this series of improvements will help people and groups stay close to one another,” the platform stated. Some features will give the administrators of the WhatsApp groups more flexibility in moderating the content shared by the members. An administrator can ‘delete for everyone ‘ if a member sends offensive content to the group.

The social media platform is upgrading its level to competitors such as Telegram which allows huge files to be shared. Whatsapp users will be able to send files up to 2GB from a previous limit of 100MB. “In the coming weeks, we’ll roll out the ability to share files up to 2GB and add more people to your groups so you can continue creating and nurturing meaningful, private connections.” the platform stated.

The platform will add more features that accommodate multiple people in a call. The feature involves a one-tap voice call that accommodates a group of 32 people for individuals who prefer live conversations rather than chatting. Whatsapp users have been assured of more improvements to the group chats as the platform tries to match with what its competitors are offering.

“In 2011 we introduced Group Chats, and we haven’t stopped improving since,” read part of the platform’s statement. The founder of the telegram, Pavel Durov, had noted that his platform had chipped away some users from Zuckerberg’s social media platform as telegram continued to produce more app features for its consumers. He had on some occasions brought up the fact, that telegram has been growing tremendously despite having no marketing budget. He attributed the consumer-centric approach as the biggest driver of telegram growth numbers. Whatsapp seems to have taken the memo from its competitor seriously.
