The US government has issued a fresh advisory warning its airlines of risk of attack in the Kenyan airspace which is a blow to local tourism.

This is a blow for the tourism industry as the US foreigners are the Kenya’s top tourists with recording of 245,437 tourists’ arrival last year. This number rose due to the direct flights from Nairobi JKIA airport to US JFK airport.

The agency said, “The persons are advised to exercise caution when flying into, out of, within, or over the territory and airspace of Kenya East of 40 degrees East longitude at altitudes below fl260 due to the possibility of militant activity.”

The US FEDERAL Aviation Administration (FAA) warned civilian airlines and all operators of US-registered aircraft to take caution flying in the Kenyan airspace over possible attacks by the terrorists.

The major reason for this caution is because the aircrafts may encounter fire from small arms, indirect fire weapons which is a threat to the safety. Such weapons can be used to target the aircrafts flying at low altitudes especially at airfields located east of 40 degrees east longitude, this is according to FAA.

The US and Kenya struck a deal for direct cargo flights last year that saw major boost in the economy but this recent warning causes possible threat to the aviation industry that has been faring well for some time.
