According to its founder, Dr. Josephine Kulea, the foundation has so far been able to save 1500 girls in Samburu County.

During her presentation, Dr. Kulea highlighted the challenges faced by the pastoralist girl in Kenya, stating that 11% of girls aged between seven to twelve years go through Female Genital Mutilation in Kenya.

Dr. Kulea added that her foundation provides education opportunities and psychosocial care to affected girls through its programs that include; Rescue and Reconciliation which offers the girls a safe place to live and psychological care support through pro-bono counselors, Education where the girls are educated from primary to tertiary levels and Community Outreach where they sensitize communities on harmful practices and their implications.

Dr. Kulea’s presentation stirred positive responses from organizations including;  Thogithi Handmade, Set Piece Consultancy, Cottage Industries Kenya, and Toyota Kenya Foundation who also announced their support toward the Samburu Girls’ Foundation.
