National carrier Kenya Airways has announced that it will resume direct flights to Madagascar, following the easing of travel restrictions by the country.

The flight will run three times a week from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi to the Ivato International Airport, Antananarivo every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“As part of our tactical approach to growth, we seek to link key markets within the KQ network to allow passengers seamless connectivity from all points with a particular focus in connecting Africa,” said Julius Thairu, chief of commercial and customer officer in a statement.

Passengers travelling to Madagascar are advised to follow protocols set by the government for passenger entry including negative PCR tests results done 72 hours before the flight and a rapid antigen screening test will be done upon arrival.

Passengers with positive test results will be required to quarantine for at least seven days at health facilities or hotels approved by the government.

KQ  is set to receive a further Ksh36.6 billion bailout in the year starting July as part of efforts to help the airline recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
