The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) has endorsed the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to nominate Dr. Monica Juma for the Commonwealth Secretary-General post.

The President selected Dr. Juma owing to her vast knowledge of regional and multi-national government including multilateral relations as well as international development, security, and humanitarian issues.

According to President Kenyatta, Juma’s stellar educational qualifications, impeccable professional conduct, and integrity as well as experience as a diplomat, positions her well to deliver a prosperous future for Commonwealth member states.

“Her exemplary service as one of Kenya’s top diplomats establishes Amb. Dr. Juma as a diplomat per excellence. It is in this light that the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) endorses the nomination,” the president said.

In a press release dated September 22, 2021, KEPSA expressed great hope of seeing Amb. Dr. Juma as the 7th Secretary-General of the Commonwealth family of 54 nations.

Dr. Juma, who is currently Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Defense has previously served in the Foreign Affairs docket, after being the Principal Secretary in Defense, Interior and Coordination of National Government, and Foreign Affairs departments.

According to KEPSA, Juma is a consensus builder, who is known for building institutions that are fit-for-purpose and creating teams around their visions.

“She conducts her private and public affairs with integrity and utmost professionalism. We believe that these qualities will enable her to strengthen the Commonwealth Secretariat to deliver on the decisions of member states, while shaping effective strategies that deal with the current and emerging challenges, as outlined in her thematic approach of Commitment, Connections & Consensus,” KEPSA noted.

KEPSA membership is wide and diverse covering big and small sectoral associations and corporates in the country and partnerships internationally including hosting the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Kenya.

The membership institution commits itself to ensure yearly improvement in the overall business environment for Kenya by working together with the Government and other stakeholders and being involved in the socio-economic development of the country.
