In 2022, Optiven Real Estate joined the rest of the globe in commemorating World Environment Day. The global observation took place on June 5, 2022, and is regarded as the world’s largest environmental celebration, according to the United Nations Environment Program. Sweden, a country that has made significant environmental progress, was the host country for this year’s event, which was held under the theme Only One Earth, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature.”

When it comes to environmental issues, Optiven makes it a top priority in its operations. While the group’s real estate arm has received the most attention, the Optiven Foundation’s environment pillar has pushed the group’s environmental goal. Mr. George Wachiuri, Chairman and Trustee of the Optiven Group Foundation, gave insights into the green agenda in Nairobi in honor of the 2022 World Environment Day.

The event was a pre-World Environment Day conference aimed at sustainability stakeholders at the Environmental Sustainability Summit, which was held in conjunction with this year’s World Environment Day, which had the theme “Only One Earth!” The KENCTAD Kenyan Entrepreneurs’ Conference On Trade & Development, the event’s organizers, were holding the event for the eighth time, and it coincided with the topic of this year’s World Environment Day.

As the key speaker at the event, Mr. Wachiuri called on all people from all walks of life to embrace the preservation of the planet seeing that we all live here. Speaking on the role that Optiven has played with regard to the sustainability agenda, he added that the need to work with policy stakeholders will better the chances of embracing the sustainability agenda across the board.

He advised that Optiven has been at the forefront of pushing different agendas in line with sustainability including deliberate planning of their projects to consider and adapt green spaces, sustainable living, environmental friendly habitat practices and the forestation or tree planting on all projects.

The company has also been awarded for its role in the green energy sector for the installation of solar powered street lighting on its projects. Already, Optiven through the Optiven Foundation has been working with a children’s home in Kayole to erect a solar powered water pump to boost water access at the home.
