Kenya’s ride-hailing app, Little, is set to introduce electric bikes and scooters in 3 universities and select estates within Nairobi.

In the plan, says the company CEO Mr. Kamal Budhabbatti, Little will partner with Universities and have students manage the bikes.

Each bike and scooter will be fitted with geo-location technology to restrict movements outside the service areas. Universities will also be tasked to provide security to the bikes to ensure the bikes remain within the institutions in case the tech aspect have been tampered.

Already, the company have rolled out a pilot program where 200 e-scooters are operating within the University of Nairobi (UoN).

Mr. Budhabbatti says “200 is a small number we are doing in universities” and should the “plan works well we (Little) will get 10,000 of these and assemble them locally.” After UoN, Little is rolling out the pilot program to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Kenyatta University (KU).

Currently, Little plans to charge a flat rate of Sh20 per hour for the e-bikes and scooters while restricting them to a maximum of two hours per single ride. Should the rollout work, Little will scale to motor vehicles.
