The Meru man who caused a ‘lion’ scare in the Kiangua area in Imenti South, Meru County over a shopping bag has been gifted a 3-day safari in the Mara by Kenya’s leading tour agency, Expeditions Maasai Safaris.

Franklin Murimi, a farmworker from Meru received the holiday voucher on Tuesday at the company’s office in Nairobi alongside his employer Mrs. Mugambi that had them overjoyed. The celebrated and award-winning tour operator has catered for all the expenses from transport, accommodation, game drives, meals, drinks, and park entrance charges of the 3-day safari that the two are enjoying in the Mara. The 3-day safari runs from Tuesday, May 10 to Thursday, May 12, 2022.

Expeditions Maasai Safaris decided to gift the man and his employer after his hilarious story went viral on Twitter attracting over 800 tweets and nearly 2,000 likes just an hour after it had been published.

Franklin narrated that he was sharpening his farm tool in readiness for farm work when he noticed what appeared to be a lion under a flowerbed. This caused a frenzy in the area, which prompted his employer to quickly call the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) officers to take the ‘dangerous feline’ away.

It was when the KWS rangers arrived that they discovered that what was feared to be a lion was actually an image of a lion on a branded shopping bag. It was at this moment that the onlookers, thrilled by the discovery took to social media with photos depicting the hilarious moments triggering hilarious reactions from Kenyans on Twitter.

“I never thought someone would pay me to go on a holiday. Even my friends said I was pranking KWS but I truly had seen the image as a lion. Others even told me to stop taking drugs but I am a Christian and have never taken any drugs,’’ said Franklin as he received the voucher.

A grateful Mrs. Mugambi, Franklin’s employer, added that they were grateful for the gift voucher from the Expeditions Maasai Safaris, which she would highly recommend to her friends for the kind gesture they accorded them.

While presenting the voucher to them, Expeditions Maasai Safaris CEO, entrepreneur CEO Pancras Karema lauded Murimi’s action and thanked their customers for supporting and enabling his company to touch the lives of fellow Kenyans like Murimi.

“Expeditions Maasai Safaris will always encourage and give deserving Kenyans the opportunity to experience what our customers enjoy when they are on holiday with us. We believe you will see the real Simba and go back to Meru and encourage others to book a safari to tour our magical Kenya,’’ remarked Karema.
