The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPPRA) has announced a drop in fuel prices in its latest monthly review.

EPPRA calculated the maximum wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019, Legal Notice No. 196 of 2010 and Legal Notice No. 26 of 2012.

These calculations determined the oil prices which will be in enforce from 15th April 2020 to 14th May 2020.

Effectively, from midnight of April 12, the Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will retail at Kshs.92.87, Kshs.97.56 and Kshs.77.28 respectively in Nairobi.

“Taking into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decrease by Kshs.18.00, Kshs.4.09 and Kshs.18.18 per liter respectively, “EPPRA said in a statement.

Prices will vary from town to town depending on the transportation costs. In Mombasa, motorists will pay Sh90.40 for Super Petrol, Sh95.09 for diesel and Sh74.82 for Kerosene per liter.

Motorists in Kisumu will pay Sh93.67 for Super Petrol, Sh98.49 for diesel and Sh78.27 for Kerosene per liter.

EPPRA attributed the decrease in this month’s prices to the drop of the landed cost of imported Super Petrol by 34.61% from US$ 472.59 per cubic meter in February 2020 to US$ 309.03 per cubic meter in March 2020.

These reductions will come as huge relief to motorists who have been severely hit by measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Households who depend on Kerosene will also benefit from the review.
