Residents of Kisumu have moved to court to compel Agrochemicals and Food Company and Kibos Sugar Allied in Nyanza region to find an alternative site of disposing their toxic waste in case that will be mentioned on Friday.

This follows a move by Agrochemicals and Food firm seeking court dismissal on an application of temporary closure over pollution case.

Kibos Sugar and Allied company on the other hand is fighting to overturn a ruling by the lower court which invalidated its operation license that may paralyze the company’s operation.

Residences said that the two industries have been disposing waste into River Nyando, which serves many people in the region, affecting human, plants, fish and other animals.

The residents, some of who are employees of the two companies, are now urging the court to formulate restrictions to the company on further disposal of the harmful chemicals.

The petitioners also seek suspension of the company’s license by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) if the company fails to conform to their insistence.

Environmental conservation is a vital practice that should be handled with cognitive intelligence as nature is a crucial part of our lives thus its pollution may lead to desperation.
