Bernard Njiraini, the suspended MD of Kebs, will today face fresh charges in the case where he and seven others are accused of stealing contaminated sugar from a government warehouse.

Last month, Njiraini was charged alongside Joseph Kiago Kaguru, the deputy commissioner of the Kenya Revenue Authority, Derrick Njeru Kago, Peter Njoroge Mwangi, and Crispus Waithaka Macharia, a clearing and forwarding agency.

Others were businesspeople Pollyanne Njeri, Abdi Hirsi Yusuf, and Mohammed Hassan Ali.

Allegations against them all included stealing condemned sugar worth Sh20 million and selling it illegally.

Each of the accused is out on an Sh400,000 bail.

However, the prosecution informed Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina that they planned to reassess the accusations and would prefer to bring new charges against the individuals.
