The government’s digital payment platform was launched by President William Ruto on Friday in an effort to improve service delivery’s effectiveness and inclusivity.

As a result of the system’s elimination of the inefficiencies, corruption, waste, and discrimination inherent in human interactions, Ruto said that Kenyans will be able to access more than 5,000 government services online through the Digital Government Services, also known as “Gava Mkononi” (government on touch).

The National Treasury will be in charge of managing the services on the eCitizen platform’s USSD code *2222#, and Gava Express will offer services to those without smartphones at the local level, stated Ruto.

He urged Kenyans to take advantage of the digital training opportunities offered by the state-owned Information and Communication Technology Authority, which is targeting 20 million people.

The president noted that the remaining government services will be digitized in 90 days.

In addition, no government service would be paid in cash starting next month, according to Ruto, who added that the government will introduce digital identification credentials at the same time.

The free Wi-Fi project has been expanded to markets and County Industrial Parks, said Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and The Digital Economy, to improve e-commerce.
