To fulfill rising consumer demand and redefine home and office internet connectivity in the region, Huawei has announced Wi-Fi 7, the most recent Wi-Fi technology, in East Africa.

The technology’s new protocols enable the fastest internet available, with individual device speeds of up to 500 Mbps and aggregate speeds of up to 30 Gigabits per second per router.

Huawei’s Chief Technology Officer for Southern Africa, Matamela Mashau, noted that the innovation was motivated by consumer demand for faster download and upload speeds as well as the necessity to connect multiple devices to the Internet as he officially inaugurated the service in Nairobi.

“The Wi-Fi 7 effectively doubles the number of devices that can effectively work with high-speed internet access, ensuring that a home or an office can comfortably accommodate up to 120 smart television sets, computers, and smartphones at any one time,” said Mashau adding that Huawei’s local channel partners will be responsible for last mile availability of the new solution to customers.

The requirement for personnel to be constantly connected, regardless of their location, has led to organizations switching from wired to wireless connectivity, according to Mashau.

He continued, “At the same time, businesses are sending and receiving enormous files, some of which are bulky films or multimedia presentations.”

“Facing such high requirements, the current Wi-Fi 6 standard is insufficient to improve the user experience in high-density scenarios. That is the reason we have launched Wi-Fi 7 to solve this challenge”, he noted.

Moreover, Wi-Fi 7 offers previously unreachable data rates and has lower latency, higher network capacity, and significantly improved efficiency.

The new product launches coincide with the Kenyan government’s ongoing efforts to expand internet access and usage by establishing tech centres throughout the nation.
