Local carrier, Renegade Air Limited, formerly Silverstone Air,  will be having direct flights to Kisumu starting August 26, 2021 contending with Kenya Airways’ Jambojet, Safarilink, 748 Air Services and Fly540 for passengers in the route.

According to Renegade, the new service to Kisumu will originate from Wilson Airport in Nairobi two times per day with passengers paying S h5, 000 on a one-way air ticket, a price lower than its other competitors for passengers like Jambojet which charges up to Sh10,000 to carry passengers on the Nairobi–Kisumu route and 748 Air Services which charges Sh5,800.

Renegade’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Patrick Oketch confirmed that the carrier is set to launch scheduled passenger flights to Kisumu from Wilson Airport in Nairobi on August 26, 2021.

In an interview with Business Daily, Oketch explained that the launch of operations on the Kisumu route coincides with Renegade’s renewed expansion plans across the country. “The carrier will deploy a Dash8-Q300 (flight types that carry up to 50 passengers on a single trip) of aircraft on the route. This is also an opportunity for us to promote tourism in the counties,” Oketch noted.

This comes after Renegade was cleared to conduct aerial work services in Kenya and Africa using a range of aircraft based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Wilson Airport and awarded a three-year service license in 2015 to operate 10 prime routes by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

The routes connect Nairobi to main business and tourism destinations such as Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Malindi, Lokichogio, Kigali, Marsabit, Loyengalani, Ileret, Kapese and Nariokotome.

The airline which mainly operates charter services and cargo is planning to launch Kisumu flights years after it started passenger flights to Wajir from Nairobi.
