Safaricom Special Projects Boss Joe Ogutu Retires after 17 Years

Safaricom Executive Committee member Joe Ogutu will be retiring from the giant telco at the end of the month after serving for 17 years.

During his term, Mr. Ogutu served as the firm’s chief of special projects and also served as the chief business development and strategy officer.

“After 17 years of service, Joe Ogutu, our Chief of Special Projects and Acting Chief Business Development and Strategy Officer, will be retiring at the end of this month,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom.

He has been serving as he chairman of of the Safaricom Foundation since 2012 and was part of the officials that worked on the Safaricom’s successful bid for the second telecommunications in Ethiopia.

In 2005, Mr. Ogutu joined the telco as the chief corporate affairs officer before he was appointed as the chief human resources officer in 2008.

Stephen Kiptinness will be joining in as the new chief corporate affairs officer and ew member of the executive committee effective 1st May 2022. He will be tasked with overseeing the development and implementation of the firm’s corporate investment strategy as well as its internal and external communications.

Kiptinness joins the firm from Kiptinness and Odhiambo Associates LLP where he was a senior partner heading the technology and technology and intellectual property practice for the last 10 years.
