Uhuru Kenyatta Reviews Covid-19 Measures

Kenya’s President has reviewed Covid-19 measures and this comes after 2 weeks after the previous speech on the same. According to Uhuru, these measures will be effective from 27th March 2021. He has reviewed curfew hours to 8 PM-4 AM in five counties: Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu and, Nakuru.

These counties according to him are more affected by the virus. The curfew shall however remain from 10 PM-4 AM in the rest of the counties. Movement in and out of the zoned areas has been ceased in the stipulated time. These lockdown measures according to the President is to control the spread of the third wave of Covid-19.

“Kenya is squarely in the grip of the third wave of its pandemic,” President Kenyatta said in his state address.

The president added that the third wave will likely escalate in 30 days at about 3,00 cases daily. This is after the rate of infection shot to 19% fromb2.6 %at the start of the year. He said that since his last address to the nation on 12th March, 7,630 Kenyans have been hospitalized for Covid-19. He added that before his other address to the nation on the 12th of March, 4,990 people had been admitted. According to him, the admission rate has increased by 52% in the last 13 days.

President Uhuru has suspended all on-going physical learning in all educational institutions including universities, tertiary and vocational colleges. This suspension however does not apply to candidates sitting for their examinations and those in medical training institutions until further communicated.
