Suppliers have warned that prices of household electronics will rise by more than 20% due to a shortage of raw materials and global freight delays causing order delays.

Televisions, refrigerators, home theaters, water heaters, and washing machines are the most likely to be affected consumer goods.

Manufacturers are dealing with a scarcity of raw materials such as copper, plastics, and steel, which are used in the production of all appliances, and the cost of these materials has risen as a result.

“Covid-19 was the main reason.” The majority of Kenyan electronics are imported from China, but their factories closed and they had a backlog when they reopened,” said Kunal Patel, AMRCO’s head of sales.

“We’re dealing with higher freight rates, and chip manufacturers claim there’s a chip shortage.” Prices have been rising and are continuing to rise. We anticipate a 20% to 30% price increase.”

“We expect the price of all electronic supplies to increase by more than 10%,” a local supplier added.
