Mombasa Port Reforms will Spur Growth, President Ruto

President William Ruto stated that the government is keen to develop the port to be competitive globally.

He asserted that the port needs to undergo reforms in order for the country to prosper.

“The productivity of this Port is directly linked to the state of our economy, improving efficiency will help us create jobs, boost export volumes and stimulate economic growth,” he said.

The President spoke on Saturday at the Berth 22 of the Port of Mombasa at the Port Reforms Working Group Consultative Forum.

Later, the President inaugurated the 120 million USD Toyota Fortuner Assembly Line in Miritini.

The President stated during the launch that the government has implemented policies and measures to foster the expansion of manufacturing.

“We need investments to create opportunities, uplift communities and strengthen the economy.”

He urged stakeholders in the automobile industry to provide cars that are affordable for people with low incomes.

At the Kenya Navy Headquarters, the President oversaw KNS Shupavu’s rededication.

He emphasised that the move will increase the Kenya Defence Forces’ ability to properly serve the maritime sector.

“This will significantly boost our Blue Economy and enhance our exploration for possibilities of trade and investment in the Oceans.”

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, CSs Kipchumba Murkomen, Moses Kuria, Aden Duale, Salim Mvurya, Chairperson of the Council of Governors Anne Waiguru, Governors of Mombasa and Lamu, Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi, MPs led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, and Chairman of the Kenya Ports Authority Benjamin Tayari were in attendance.
