Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has proposed that Kenya Power reimburse for losses caused by power outages.

The Senator stated in a statement on Saturday that Kenya Power should be held accountable because power disruptions cause significant losses.

“The KPLC must quantify and compensate for the loss of lives and businesses lost during the massive blackout across the country,” Cherargei said.

The UDA Senator went on to say that Kenya’s level of preparedness to deal with the emergency should be exceptional.

This, he believes, should be especially true in areas considered important national installations, such as hospitals and airports.

Cherargei inquired as to why the JKIA’s standby generators were not operational.

Kenya experienced a power outage across the country on Friday, including at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Even though power had been restored at the airport and other parts of Nairobi, the majority of the city remained in darkness.

Kenyans have been outraged by the blackout.

The country’s business owners have continued to bear the weight of the statewide power outage that has hit many parts of the country.

As result, businesses that rely on power to operate have continued to suffer losses.

On Friday night, passengers at JKIA got stuck in the dark for at least two hours.

The power loss also affected Nairobi, the Rift Valley, Mount Kenya, and Western Kenya.
