Arrest and Jail KRA Boss, Keroche Demands

Keroche Breweries has moved to court seeking the arrest of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)Commissioner General James Mburu for disobeying a High Court order to re-open the firm.

Through H&K Law Advocates, Keroche wants Mburu arrested and committed to jail for six months for failure to obey the order issued on July 14 by Justice Alfred Mabeya. 

“The court be pleased to commit James Mburu, the contemnor herein, to imprisonment for a period of six months for disobeying and being in contempt of the orders of this court,” Keroche says in court papers.

Keroche’s Chief Executive Tabitha Karanja accuses KRA of continuing to fail to obey the order compelling it to reopen the plant with immediate effect.

“Despite being served with High Court orders, KRA is yet to comply with the same and to date no steps or action has been taken by the tax agency to enforce compliance,” Karanja says. 

On July 14th, Justice Mabeya directed KRA, its officers, associates and agencies to “unseal the packaging line and stores”.

Mabeya further directed KRA to reactivate the excisable goods management systems and allow Keroche to continue with its business.
