The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has ordered Kenya’s top four manufacturers of edible fats and cooking oil to remove ten of their brands from the supply chain with immediate effect.

In a letter to Retail Traders Association of Kenya, the standards body says the brands from Bidco Africa, Pwani Oil Products, Menengai Oil Refineries and Kapa Oil Refineries have failed to meet the required standards as specified in KS EAS 769: KS  2019 Fortified Edible Oils and Fats Specification.

“The purpose of this letter is to bring to your attention the below listed brands of non-compliant edible oils and fats that have failed to meet the requirement of the standard, and to request your good office to notify your members to recall these brands and remove them from supply chain from your members’ outlets across the country,” said Peter Kaigwara, KEBS Director of Market Surveillance.

The brands include Bahari Fry, Fresh Fri, Fresh Fri with Garlic Oil, Fry Mate, Gold n Pure Olive Gold, Postman, Rina, Salit, Tilly and Top Fry.
