An announcement concerning operationalizing a new parking management system at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been aired by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

The airport has over 14,000 daily vehicle movements with over 20,000 passengers’ drops and pick-ups.

The new parking system features innovations such as displaying available parking spaces at the different airport parking zones on entry.

The KAA says that the new system is in line with strategic plan to increase JKIA’s annual handling capacity to over 10 million passengers from the current 8 million passengers.

Customers will use USSD code *486*12 to make payments via mobile money specifically M-pesa thus eliminating pay points at exit points hence improving vehicular movement.

The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip system that scans vehicle details to allow swift passage through the airport is yet another interesting feature.
